German-born Ghanaian midfielder John Yeboah has been named in Ecuador’s 26-man squad for the 2024 Copa America by manager Felix Sanchez.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, to a Ghanaian father and an Ecuadorian mother, Yeboah previously featured for Germany in various youth categories, including U16, U17, U18, U19, and U20.
Yeboah’s impressive performances in the Polish top-flight league for Rakow have earned him the call-up to represent Ecuador for the first time in a major tournament with his first senior national team call-up coming last year.
In 30 appearances this season, he has contributed five assists and scored three goals.
This call-up marks an exciting new chapter in Yeboah’s international football journey, with Ghana missing out on his prodigious talent.
Ecuador, who were knocked out at the group stage of the 2022 World Cup after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2021 Copa America, have three friendlies lined up: Argentina on June 9, Bolivia on June 13, and Honduras on June 16.
They begin their Copa America campaign on June 22 against Venezuela, followed by matches against Jamaica on June 26 and Mexico on July 1.
