Swedish Superettan side Helsingborgs IF have secured the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Asoma from Allsvenskan outfit Västerås SK on a four-year contract.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who impressed during a loan stint with Trelleborgs FF last season, is set to bolster Helsingborgs’ squad as they aim for success in the 2025/26 campaign.
The club announced the deal in an official statement:
“Helsingborgs IF and Västerås SK agree on a transfer for midfielder Samuel Asoma. The 22-year-old has signed a contract that runs through the 2028 season.”
Speaking to Helsingborgs’ official website, Asoma expressed his excitement about joining the club:
“I didn’t know much about the club, but I played against HIF this season, and it was an incredible experience. The arena, the facilities, and especially the fans were fantastic. I’m very happy to join this team and take on this new challenge in my career. I give everything on the field, and the HIF supporters can expect 100% effort from me every time I play.”
Praise from Sporting Director Mikael Dahlberg
Helsingborgs’ sporting director, Mikael Dahlberg, highlighted Asoma’s qualities and his potential impact on the team:
“Samuel had a very strong autumn with Trelleborgs, and after studying him closely, it’s clear he fits perfectly into our style of play. He’s a confident player who will enhance competition in our midfield and strengthen the squad overall.”
Born in Berekum, Ghana, Asoma moved to Belgium at a young age and represented Belgium’s youth national teams at the U15, U16, U17, U18, and U19 levels. Despite his international experience with Belgium, he remains eligible to switch allegiance and represent Ghana at the senior level.
The talented midfielder now embarks on a new chapter with Helsingborgs IF, where he will aim to make a significant impact in the Superettan and help the club achieve its ambitions.
