Ghanaian striker Mohammed Fuseini proved to be the match-winner on Sunday, scoring the decisive goal in Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s 1-0 triumph over arch-rivals RSC Anderlecht in a fiercely contested Belgian Pro League encounter at Lotto Park.
The 22-year-old continued his impressive run of form, combining lethal pace with sharp finishing to make the difference in a game of fine margins. Fuseini reached a blistering top speed of 37.58 km/h during the match — a pace that surpasses the season’s fastest recorded sprints in both the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League.
The game began with intensity, as both sides pushed forward in search of an early advantage. Anderlecht controlled the early stages with sustained possession and high pressing but were consistently denied by Union’s compact and disciplined defense.
As the first half progressed, Union SG gradually found their rhythm and began to exploit the spaces left behind by Anderlecht’s high line. The breakthrough came in the 39th minute after a swift transition from midfield.
A turnover in possession allowed Union to launch a quick counterattack, and midfielder Cameron Puertas delivered a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Fuseini. The Ghanaian forward timed his run to perfection, stayed onside, and coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to give his side the lead.
That goal proved enough to secure all three points for Union Saint-Gilloise, with Fuseini’s electrifying performance once again underlining his rising profile in European football.
