Ghanaian international midfielder, Fatawu Ganiwu, was in action for Chelsea’s U18 side on Saturday when they faced Manchester United U18s.
The 16-year-old has been training with the youth team for some time now, and has been on trial with the English club.
Ganiwu has previously trialed with clubs such as RC Lens and RB Leipzig, but it seems that Chelsea has taken a particular interest in him. The talented midfielder has been observed by the club for some time, and his recent performance in a friendly match between Chelsea and Sheffield United, which ended 1-1, reportedly impressed the coaching staff.
On Saturday, Ganiwu played another game for Chelsea U18 against Manchester United U18. The match was an opportunity for him to showcase his skills and gain more experience with the team.
After the match, Ganiwu had the chance to watch Chelsea’s first-team in action as they hosted Inter Milan on Sunday. The experience would have been a great opportunity for him to learn from the best and gain more insight into the club’s playing style.
Chelsea, which has been increasingly scouting talent from African academies, is considering a move for Ganiwu.
Co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields is reportedly involved in the process, and if Ganiwu’s trial proves successful, he may land a deal with the club.
