Ghanaian winger Nana Opoku Amponmah, has, returned to German side Fortuna Düsseldorf following an unsuccessful stint with Belgian side Royal Antwerp.
Just two years ago, Nana Ampomah (26), became the most expensive player in the club’s history (for 3 million transfer fee from Belgium club Waasland-Bevere.
He had fled after just one unfortunate season at Fortuna. The player had ended up at Royal Antwerp despite corona sloppiness, poor performance and even intentions to go on strike.
Ampomah, who still has a year’s contract in Düsseldorf, has realized that it was a mistake for him to leave Fortuna Düsseldorf simply because even at Royal he was not happ
His cousin, who accompanied him to Düsseldorf, revealed while Ampomah was eagerly chasing across the pitch at the first Fortuna training session in two years.
“We traveled 2:20 hours by car from Belgium. The players here gave Nana a very warm welcome. He really wants to play for Fortuna again and has big plans.” He said as quoted by bild.de.
The player obviously regretted his “escape from Düsseldorf”. His cousin: “He wondered why he did it back then. Nothing went as planned in Antwerp.”
Now Ampomah is fully committed to his second chance at Fortuna. His cousin: “He wants to fulfill his contract in Düsseldorf and is hoping for promotion to the Bundesliga.”
He certainly won’t have any problems with his old colleagues. They warmly welcomed him back. Head coach Daniel Thioune (47), whom he has only just met, will certainly be at his side with advice and action. No wonder that manager Klaus Allofs (65) is in a positive mood after a first conversation with Ampomah: “He’s happy, makes a confident and fit impression.”
