English-born Ghanaian descent Kobbie Mainoo has been named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year at Manchester United for the 2022/23 season.
The youngster had a breakthrough season as he featured for both the youth and the senior team under the guidance of Erik ten Hag.
The midfielder starred for the junior team as well as making three first-team appearances during the 2022/23 season.
The 17-year-old made his first appearance for the first team during the 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup back in January. Later that month, he was also involved in the 3-1 win over Reading in the FA Cup.
Mainoo’s maiden Premier League game was in the 3-0 drubbing of Leicester City at Old Trafford replacing Marcel Sabitzer in the 80th minute of the game.
For the academy, the 18-year-old scored two goals and provided two assists this season.
He takes over the award from Alejandro Garnacho, who also became a regular in the first team this season under ten Hag.
