Kwadwo ‘Mahala’ Opoku, a talented young Ghanaian player, expressed his enthusiasm after completing his transfer to CF Montreal.
The 21-year-old made the move from LAFC in a deal worth $1,650,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money and $100,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money.
As part of the agreement, Montreal also received $100,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money from LAFC in exchange for a 2023 international roster spot.
Opoku shared his excitement in a video announcing his arrival, addressing Montreal fans and stating, “Hi Montreal fans. This is Opoku, and I am really excited to get started.”
Having previously represented Ghana at the U17 level, Opoku leaves Los Angeles after contributing to LAFC’s victory in the 2022 MLS Cup, notably scoring in the Western Conference final against Austin FC.
He made 60 appearances in the regular season for LAFC before making a strong impression during the playoffs last year.
Opoku’s journey to the United States began when he moved from the Attram De Visser Academy.
