UK-based Ghanaian youngster Travis Akomeah has returned to Chelsea Football Club to sign a scholarship deal with the club ahead of the start of a new season.
The player was part of 16 players who returned to the club’s training centre this week to pen their deals at Stamford Bridge.
All but three of the new scholars played youth team football last season, when Ed Brand’s team finished eighth, advanced to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals, and won the Under-18 Premier League Cup after defeating Fulham at Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, the Premier League national finals were won by the Under-16 age group.
Travis joined Chelsea from Watford as an Under-16 in January of this year. He is a dynamic central defender with a commanding physical presence on the pitch. Furthermore, he is quite comfortable playing out from the back.
Travis has also represented England at the Under-16 and Under-18 levels since his arrival in the winter.
Before they can sign their first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday, all players in their Under-17 year must begin the season on a scholarship arrangement.
