Ghana’s Group B opponents, Mozambique, displayed their prowess with a convincing 2-0 victory over Lesotho in a friendly encounter ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.

From the opening whistle, Mozambique asserted control, demonstrating a fluid and cohesive style of play that kept Lesotho on the defensive. The midfield orchestration and precise passing showcased the team’s preparation for the challenges that lie ahead in the highly anticipated AFCON competition.

Mozambique’s first breakthrough came in the 35th minute when a skillful combination play breached Lesotho’s defense, culminating in a clinical finish that found the back of the net. The goal not only highlighted Mozambique’s offensive capabilities but also served as a testament to their strategic approach on the field.

Lesotho, determined to mount a response, tried to regroup and create scoring opportunities, but Mozambique’s defense remained resolute. The cohesive backline thwarted Lesotho’s attacking advances, maintaining a solid foundation throughout the match.

As the second half unfolded, Mozambique continued to dominate possession, controlling the tempo of the game. Their second goal materialized in the 62nd minute, a result of a well-executed set piece that left Lesotho’s defense scrambling. The precision of the header demonstrated Mozambique’s proficiency not only in open play but also in exploiting set-piece opportunities.

Lesotho, trailing by two goals, intensified their efforts to narrow the deficit, but Mozambique’s disciplined defense held firm. The final whistle confirmed Mozambique’s 2-0 victory, providing them with a confidence boost ahead of the AFCON tournament and sending a clear message to their Group B counterparts, including Ghana.

As teams finalize their preparations for the continental spectacle, Mozambique’s performance in this friendly serves as a compelling preview of the challenges that lie ahead in Group B. With an impressive display of skill, teamwork, and strategic execution, Mozambique has set the stage for an intriguing battle in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
