Ghana’s Amputee National Team, the Black Challenge, have been crowned champions of the 2024 edition of the Amputee Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Challenge recorded a 2-1 win in Cairo to win the competition for the third time in a row beating Morocco in the final.
Morocco scored the game’s opener in the 14th minute of the game before Ghana equalised through Mubarak Mohammed to make it 1-1 after the break.
Ghana’s equaliser came through the spot after they were awarded a penalty in the 41st minute.
There were end-to-end actions for both teams but Ghana’s goalkeeper continued to pull wonderful saves to keep the Black Challenge in the game.
There was no winner at the end of the regulation time with the final heading into extra time.
Minutes into the extra time, Mubarak scored again to give Ghana the lead for the first time in the game as they went on to clinch the trophy at the end of the game.
Winning the trophy in Cairo means the Black Challenge have now won the last two editions of the Amputee AFCON.
They also claim a ticket to represent Africa at the 2026 World Amputee Football World Cup to be staged in Panama.
