After Ghana’s Black Stars’ 2-1 defeat to Nigeria, in-form forward Antoine Semenyo shared his insights after the game in an interview with the communication director of the Ghana Football Association highlighting the performances of both young and experienced players in the crucial friendly match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Expressing his satisfaction, Semenyo praised the young talents within the team, noting their impressive display on the field. He expressed optimism about their potential and looked forward to witnessing even better performances from them in future games. “The young players played really well today, and I believe it will benefit the team as we progress,” he remarked.

In addition to acknowledging the contribution of the youth, Semenyo emphasized the significance of experienced players within the squad.

He emphasized the value of their wealth of experience, gained from participating in numerous AFCON tournaments and World Cup campaigns. “Having a mix of both old and young players is highly beneficial. The experienced players bring invaluable knowledge and leadership to the team,” he stated.

Semenyo also touched upon the team’s new direction, highlighting a shift in philosophy towards ball retention. “We entered the game with the aim of maintaining possession, and I believe we executed that strategy well against Nigeria,” he explained.

Despite the defeat, Semenyo expressed disappointment at the outcome, considering the team’s control over the game against their arch-rivals, Nigeria. He lamented the early dismissal of a player in the second half, suggesting that it may have influenced the result. “We performed admirably today; it’s just unfortunate that we were reduced to ten men early in the second half. Who knows, perhaps we could have achieved a better result,” he added.

Semenyo’s exceptional form at AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League has been noteworthy, with six goals and three assists to his credit this season.

As Ghana prepares to face Uganda in another friendly match, Semenyo is expected to feature prominently in the starting lineup. His presence and form will undoubtedly be crucial as the Black Stars aim for a positive result in their upcoming fixture.
