Athletic Bilbao’s Ghanaian striker Iñaki Williams will be absent from the team’s final La Liga match of the 2023-24 season against Rayo Vallecano this Saturday due to a recent plastic surgery procedure.

The San Mamés Club released an official medical report confirming that the 29-year-old forward underwent surgery to treat a painful scar on his left foot. The procedure was conducted at the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic on Tuesday morning.

Consequently, Williams will not be available for Bilbao’s concluding match of the season at Vallecas. Despite this setback, he has enjoyed a successful season, participating in 39 matches across both the league and the Copa del Rey.

Throughout the season, Williams scored 14 goals and provided five assists, significantly contributing to Bilbao’s triumph in the Copa del Rey. The highlight was the dramatic victory against RCD Mallorca in a penalty shootout on April 6, where Williams’ performance was pivotal.

As the older brother of Nico Williams, Iñaki has played a crucial role in Bilbao’s squad this season. His absence in the final match will be noticeable, given his contributions and consistent presence on the field.

Williams’ surgery was deemed necessary to address the persistent discomfort caused by the scar, ensuring his long-term fitness and readiness for the next season. The medical team at IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic expects a full recovery, allowing him to return stronger for the upcoming campaigns.

His absence this weekend is a precautionary measure to facilitate optimal healing post-surgery. The club prioritizes his health and long-term contributions over a single match, highlighting their commitment to player welfare.

Williams’ impressive statistics this season reflect his importance to Athletic Bilbao. His 14 goals and five assists were crucial in many of the team’s successes, underlining his role as a key player.

The forward’s consistency and skill have been vital in both domestic league matches and cup competitions. His ability to find the back of the net and assist teammates has made him a standout performer.

Despite his absence, Athletic Bilbao remains confident in their squad’s ability to compete effectively against Rayo Vallecano. The team aims to conclude the season on a high note, building on the momentum from their Copa del Rey victory.

Fans and teammates alike will miss Williams’ presence on the field. His leadership and experience have been instrumental throughout the season, and his absence will be felt keenly in the final match.

Looking ahead, Williams is expected to be fully fit for pre-season training, where he will prepare for another competitive campaign with Bilbao. The club’s medical team is optimistic about his recovery timeline.

Williams’ dedication and resilience have been evident throughout his career, and this minor setback is unlikely to diminish his impact in future seasons. His focus will now be on recovery and returning to peak condition.

Athletic Bilbao’s management has expressed full support for Williams, emphasizing the importance of his well-being. They are confident in his ability to bounce back and continue contributing significantly to the team’s successes.

while Williams’ absence for the final match is a short-term loss, the procedure ensures his long-term health and performance. The striker’s remarkable season remains a testament to his talent and hard work.

As the season wraps up, Bilbao fans can look forward to seeing Iñaki Williams back in action, fully recovered and ready to lead the team in the next campaign. His contributions this season have set a high standard for what is to come.
