Ghanaian midfielder Eric Taylor opened his scoring account for NK Maribor as they were held to a pulsating 3-3 draw by NK Bravo in the Slovenian Prva Liga over the weekend.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Slovenian giants this summer from Norwegian side Kongsvinger IL Toppfotball, needed just two minutes on the pitch to make his mark after being introduced at the start of the second half.
Maribor had trailed 1-0 at halftime after Bravo’s Sandi Nuhanovic broke the deadlock in the 19th minute. But Taylor immediately restored parity, capitalising on a chance to net his maiden goal in Maribor colours.
His strike sparked a turnaround, with former Ghana international Benjamin Tetteh taking charge of the attack. The towering forward fired Maribor ahead in the 53rd minute following a pass from Orphe Mbina, before doubling his tally minutes later to hand the hosts a 3-1 lead.
Bravo, however, staged a late fightback. Central African Republic midfielder Venuste Baboula converted a penalty in the 87th minute to make it 3-2, and substitute Rok Kopatin struck in stoppage time to complete a dramatic comeback for the visitors.
Despite the disappointment of conceding late, Taylor’s goal capped an encouraging display, taking his tally to one goal and two assists in seven appearances across the Prva Liga and UEFA Conference League. His growing influence has further underlined Maribor’s belief in his potential since arriving in Slovenia.
