Iñaki Williams has been named the Best African Player in the Spanish league after an impressive season with Athletic Bilbao.
The 29-year-old forward has been instrumental for the Rojiblancos, helping them secure a spot in European competitions with one game left in the season.
Williams also played a key role in Athletic Bilbao’s first Copa del Rey triumph in 40 years, scoring pivotal goals against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Prior to the match against Sevilla at San Mames on Sunday, May 19, 2024, he received his award from Bilbao legend Andoni Goikoetxea.
In a recent 2-2 draw with Osasuna, Williams moved into the top 20 goal-scorers in Athletic Bilbao’s history.
This season, the Spain-born striker has enjoyed his most productive league campaign, netting 12 goals in La Liga. Additionally, he contributed two goals and two assists in the Copa del Rey.
However, his impressive club form has yet to fully translate to the international stage, where he has scored just once in 17 appearances for the Black Stars.
Williams is anticipated to rejoin the Black Stars for the World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.
