Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Majeed Ashimeru scored his first goal of the season to lead Anderlecht to a win over Royal Antwerp in their Belgium Pro League match. Ashimeru made his impact felt quickly, finding the back of the net just five minutes after coming on as a substitute for Mario Stroeykens in the 74th minute.
Having missed much of last season due to injury, Ashimeru is making a strong comeback, contributing to Anderlecht’s back-to-back victories. The 26-year-old, who renewed his contract before the season began, started in the league opener against STVV and made a significant impact as a substitute in their recent match.
Anderlecht took an early lead when Senne Lammens scored an own goal, but the hosts equalized before halftime through former Tottenham defender Tobi Alderweireld. Ashimeru then secured the win with a decisive goal ten minutes from the end.
Looking ahead, Ashimeru is anticipated to rejoin the Black Stars in September for the AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Sudan.
