Ghana’s midfield dynamo, Salis Abdul Samed, found himself on the sidelines during the recent friendly against Namibia, and coach Chris Hughton revealed that it was due to a knock the player picked up in training.

The absence of Samed was palpable as the match concluded in a frustrating 0-0 draw for the Black Stars, exposing their struggle to create scoring opportunities against a resilient Namibian side.

The setback raises concerns among fans, especially with the imminent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, Ghana failed to breach the defensive wall of Namibia, leaving supporters anxious about the team’s offensive capabilities in the upcoming challenges against Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in the group stages.

The road ahead for Ghana in AFCON is undeniably tough, and their performance in the absence of Samed underlines the importance of having key players fit and ready for the battles ahead. To advance to the knockout rounds and make a substantial impact in the tournament, the Black Stars must rise to the occasion against formidable opponents.

The uncertainty surrounding Samed’s availability for the first match against Cape Verde on Sunday adds a layer of intrigue to Ghana’s campaign. A pivotal figure in the team, Samed brings creativity and energy to the midfield, elements crucial for success in a tournament of such magnitude.

As the team navigates the final days of preparation, Hughton faces the challenge of fine-tuning the strategy and addressing the deficiencies highlighted in the friendly against Namibia. The coaching staff and players alike recognize the urgency of being well-prepared to face the best teams in Africa, with little room for error in such a highly competitive environment.

While Samed’s return would undoubtedly bolster the Black Stars’ chances, the team must collectively step up to fill the void left by his absence if necessary. The AFCON journey promises excitement and challenges in equal measure, and Ghana aims to showcase its resilience and determination in pursuit of footballing glory on the continental stage.
