The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has applauded the Black Queens for their valiant performance in the semi-final clash of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

In a statement released on Tuesday, 23rd July 2025, the Minister praised the team’s resilience and fighting spirit during their intense 120-minute battle against host nation Morocco, which ended in a 1-1 draw before Ghana lost 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

“Pushing the hosts through extra time and only falling short on penalties shows the depth of your determination and loyalty to the national cause,” Hon. Adams stated.

Though the outcome did not favour Ghana, he emphasized that the team had restored national pride and firmly repositioned Ghana as a major contender in women’s football across the continent.

“You have reminded Africa that Ghanaian women’s football is a strong force. You have made the nation proud and shown that we belong at the top level of the game,” he added.

Looking ahead to the third-place fixture against South Africa on Friday, the Minister urged the team to maintain their focus and unity. He assured them of the Ministry’s full support through the remainder of the tournament and beyond.

“This journey is the start of a new era for women’s football in Ghana. Let’s finish strong and build on this momentum,” he encouraged.

He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the loyal fans who travelled to Morocco to support the team.

“Despite the challenges, you created a vibrant Ghanaian presence in the stands. Your dedication did not go unnoticed,” he said.

In closing, Hon. Adams commended the entire team and staff, urging them to end the campaign with pride:
“You have earned our respect. Let us now aim for a winning finish.”
