The Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Mustapha Ussif is representing the sub-region at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) conference in Cairo, Egypt.

Hon. Ussif, who is a Foundation Board Member of WADA, is participating in the Executive Committee and Foundation Board meetings in Cairo alongside members from other regions in the world.

Hon. Ussif happens to be the 1st Ghanaian minister of sports to have been nominated to the World Anti-Doping Agency Foundation Board. He was appointed onto the board last year as the representative for Sub-Saharan Africa

Other African regional representatives are Egypt’s and Madagascar’s Ministers of Sports, representing the 3 slots for Africa on the Foundation Board.

Hon. Ussif will speak at the conference about Ghana’s progress on the Anti-Doping Bill, which is currently being prepared for presentation to Parliament, as well as provide an update on Ghana’s preparations for the 13th African Games, which will be held in 2023.

The Minster will use the international platform to solicit support for the Games.

On the sidelines of the Conference, the Minister will also hold bilateral discussion with Egypt’s Minister of Sports, Prof. Ashraf Sobhy, about possible collaboration in sports development between the two countries.

The sector minister is attending the conference with the Chairman of Ghana’s Anti-Doping Committee, Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye.
