Gianluigi Donnarumma, 26, has kissed PSG fans, teammates and the entire staff goodbye after sending them a heartfelt message via his Instagram page.
The Italian number one goalkeeper is considered the best in the world now after dazzling between the sticks for the French giants en route to their unbelievable treble in the 2024-25 season.
The news of him not being the undisputed number one at the club is very surprising because of his quality and how he was there for the club when they needed him to save them.
To the special Paris fans,
Donnarumma’s statement via Instagram
From the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.
Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened.
I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done. If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it. I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and you, who made me feel at home.
To my teammates – my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers.
Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour.
Thank you, Paris.
PSG signs new goalkeeper
23-year-old Calais-born has signed a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain from LOSC Lille.
The former French U18, U18, U20 and U21 goalkeeper is considered the future of French goalkeeping and is set to hone his skills under the tutelage of Spanish gaffer Luis Enrique.
Lucas Chevalier has already been chosen as the number one by Enrique, forcing Donnarumma to look for a new team.
Having won just one cap for France, Lucas is expected to soon challenge Mike Maignan for France’s number one slot.
Luis Enrique’s comments about Donnarumma
The pair had always looked cool in front of the cameras, and many are still shocked to learn that their relationship is broken. Donnarumma, in his message to the fans, said that someone has intentionally decided to push him out of the club, and fans suspect it is Enrique.
Enrique, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s clash in the Super Cup, told the press that he 100% is behind the decision to choose Chevalier of Donnarumma when he was quizzed about his role in the Italian leaving Paris.
Donnarumma’s next destination
The Italian has been monitored by a few English clubs, with Manchester United and Manchester City all being linked with him.
World Champions Chelsea are yet to officially show interest in the 6’5″ goalkeeper, but are discussing internally whether to proceed with his signature.
