An Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, who doubles as the Chairman of the Black Galaxies Management Committee Dr. Tony Aubynn, has urged the Technical team of the Ghana Black Stars to give goal poacher Daniel Afriyie Barnieh some playing time ahead of their double header friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua in order to prove himself.
In an interview with Angel TV, he opined that since these are trial matches, the player needs to be given the opportunity to prove himself, and not to only add up to the numbers.

“I am very glad Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has been given a call up. It is very encouraging to us the Committee. I am hoping that he would not only add up to the numbers, but rather be given the opportunity to prove himself since these are trial matches. And once he does, he can be added to the main games,’’ he told host Esther Abankwa.
‘’I don’t think this is the final selection of the players for the Black Star and as such, any player that proves himself in the league, can be given the opportunity. This is exactly what happened to Abedi Pele. He was unknown but made a huge impact when he was taken to the Libya 1982 AFCON,” he said.
Barnieh who plays for Accra Hearts of Oak is the only home-based player who had a slot in the Black Stars squad for the friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua later this month in France and Spain respectively.
He played a key role in the Black Galaxies’ qualification to the 2023 CHAN tournament to be held in Algeria, scoring three goals out of the six goals scored by the team during the qualifiers.
