Gladson Awako must prove himself as one of the best players in the local scene today as he is set to face Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC for the first time in Accra Hearts of Oak colours at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 31-year-old who shot himself into the hearts of many football loving fans last season has barely hit the ground running since joining the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League and FA CUP champions.
Awako scored on his Hearts derby against Elmina Sharks at the Nduom Stadium in Elmina but has since diminish in form at the club which has led to him being overlooked by head coach Samuel Boadu in some games.
He was undoubtedly the face of the Ghana Premier League during the 2020-21 season when he was the captain of Accra Great Olympics FC.
He scored 8 goals with 9 assists in the last season’s league but has failed to replicate same form this season ever since he switched from the DADE Boys to rivals Hearts of Oak SC.
However, the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup winner, Awako could kickstart his season with a crucial performance against Hearts bitterest rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC which could help him regain his lost mojo and start performing for the Oak Tree club.
Awako has no excuse than to show his mettle this afternoon in the Ghana Premier League Super Clash when given the chance to play for the Rainbow Boys this afternoon by head coach Samuel Boadu.
He is part of the match day squad as they home team hopes to cut the 12 points gap between them and the leaders to 9 with a win and Awako could be very vital if the Phobians will be able to edge past the Porcupines.
