Football analyst Kojo Addae Mensah has called on Asante Kotoko to turn to a qualified Ghanaian coach as the club begins the search for a replacement for Eric Tinkler.
The Porcupine Warriors are currently without a head coach after parting ways with the South African tactician following just two months in charge of the club.
Addae Mensah believes Kotoko should consider the local market and appoint the best available Ghanaian coach capable of providing the technical leadership needed to compete for honours.
“I think we should go out there and get the best local coach available,” he said.
“We will have to try and get the best local coach possible. That’s my view.”
The football analyst also used the opportunity to encourage Ghanaian coaches to prioritise professional development by acquiring the required coaching licences and badges.
According to him, proper certification is a fundamental requirement for coaches who want to operate at the highest level of football.
“I will use this opportunity again to advise and talk to our local coaches to get their licences and badges because it is important,” he added.
Addae Mensah dismissed complaints about the cost of obtaining coaching qualifications, arguing that licensing is a global standard that every serious coach must meet.
“They do not need to complain about the badges being expensive. Even the best coaches in the world require a licence to coach,” he said.
“The coaches must get their badges in order to sit in the dugout.”
The analyst has previously advocated for Ghanaian coaches to be given opportunities at Asante Kotoko, having called on the club before Tinkler’s appointment to consider then-Dreams FC coach Ignatius Osei Ofosu.
With Tinkler’s departure leaving a vacancy on the technical bench, Kotoko are expected to begin the process of identifying a new coach as they seek stability and a strong challenge in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
