The Government of Ghana has earmarked GHC150 million to support the senior national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson announced the allocation on Thursday, 13 November 2025, while presenting the 2026 Budget Statement in Parliament.
Dr. Forson stated that the funding forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support national teams in international competitions and to strengthen sports development across the country.
“The government’s sustained investment in sports has yielded tangible results, with the Black Stars securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he said.
He added, “A total of GHC150 million has been allocated to ensure the Black Stars are well-prepared for the global tournament.”
The Finance Minister further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and nurturing talent nationwide, including plans to construct new stadia in selected regions.
Ghana will discover its opponents for the tournament during the official draw scheduled for 5 December in Washington, DC.
