Medeama’s captain, Vincent Atinga Addae, has officially departed from the club due to a failure to reach an agreement for a contract extension.
The towering center-back was seeking a one-season contract, while the club insisted on a one-year deal, resulting in an impasse between the two parties.
As of Monday, September 11, 2023, the 29-year-old has officially become a free agent as his contract with the Ghana Premier League champions has expired.
Atinga initially joined the Yellow and Mauves in March 2021, spending three years at the club after returning from his overseas stints, which included playing for KF Tirana in Albania and Kuwaiti clubs Qadsia SC and Al Shabab.
During his tenure at Medeama, the seasoned defender made 74 appearances and remarkably scored 21 goals in the Ghanaian top-flight across three seasons. In the 2022-2023 campaign alone, Atinga netted 11 goals in 28 matches, playing a pivotal role in Medeama’s historic Ghana Premier League title win.
His outstanding contributions did not go unnoticed, as he was honored with the prestigious 2022-23 Ghana Premier League Player of the Season award at an awards ceremony organized by the Ghana Football Association last Saturday.
Atinga has already bid farewell to the club’s coaching staff and teammates, marking his immediate departure from Medeama.
