David Ocloo, the second-in-command at Hearts of Oak, has taken full responsibility for his team’s 3-0 loss to Karela at CAM Park on March 25, 2023. The Nzema-based team put on a dominant performance, handing Hearts their worst defeat of the season.
Emmanuel Boakye Owusu scored the opening goal in the 17th minute, followed by Konadu Yiadom’s own goal in the 32nd minute, which gave Karela a two-goal advantage. Just before halftime, Rashid Okine was given a straight red card, reducing Hearts to 10 men.
Richard Berko scored in the 87th minute to seal the win for Karela. As a result, Hearts of Oak’s chances of winning the title have suffered a significant setback, leaving them in fourth place and potentially seven points behind the top team, depending on other results from the weekend.
Speaking to StarTimes after the match, Ocloo admitted that defensively, his team was poor, which allowed Karela to take advantage of the space and time provided. He also said that he takes full responsibility for the loss and that his team would work on their weaknesses while emphasizing their strengths.
“It’s a bad day, it’s a bad day but I think we didn’t play badly but defensively we were poor today. Because you you’re your opponent time and space and he will punish you and that was what happened today.
“It’s a bad day at the office and I take full responsibility. We go back and right the wrongs and work more on the positives.”
