The former Black Stars goalkeeper continued his best IX for every round of the Ghana Premier League. In his round 17 edition, Fatau chose 4-2-3-1 as his preferred formation with Nana Kwaku Agyeman of Vision FC to lead the team from the dugout.
Goalkeeper
Vision FC’s Kwame Aziz was on top form when the club shockingly shocked Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyeman Badu II Park in Dormaa-Ahenkro. Aduana were unbeaten at home and were in much confidence in returning to winning ways, but lost to Meshack Adjetey’s first-half strike. Aduana was all over Vision for the equalizer but Kwame Aziz was the man who saved Vision and prevented the Ogya Boys from equalising.
Defence
Roland Leveh of Sweduru All Blacks managed to stop Peter Amidu Acquah and Hubert Gyau as they did not overload his area. Asante Kotoko, ahead of the game, had beaten Bechem United 6-0, so All Blacks needed to defend well to prevent Zito’s sharp attack from hitting top form. Leveh played a key role in stopping Kotoko’s attack from functioning. On top of that, he opened the scoring for the Sweduru side in the 37th minute.
Ridwan Ali occupies Fatau’s left centre-back position. The Vision defender was the first barrier who made sure Aduana Stars’ forwards Meshack Afriyie and Bright Adjei had less space.
In the Volta Region derby, Hohoe United drew goalless against the wounded Heart of Lions. Kwame Paul, the centre back of Hohoe United, made sure Lions’ disastrous run continued with wonderful displays.
Dreams FC won 2-0 against Basake Holy Stars. The Still Believe kept Holy Stars away from scoring, with Christian Owusu covering Christian Ahiable always when he moves forward. Owusu was terrific at the left centre back role in the three-back formation.
Midfield
Bibiani Gold Stars’ Emmanuel Agyei scored the winner in the 3-2 victory at Eleven Wonders. He accompanied it with dazzling performances, so it is little surprise to see him making Fatau’s best IX.
Vision’s Meshack Adjetey Sowah gets into the best IX of Fatau after he was able to always get behind Aduana Stars’ double pivot in midfield. His presence prevented Aduana’s back from getting to any place higher up the pitch.
Salim Adams captains Fatau Dauda’s team after scoring the all-important goal in Medeama’s 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak at the TNA Park. The feisty contest was separated by Adams’ strike, which has helped the Mauve and Yellow open up a two-point lead over second-place Bibiani Gold Stars.
Attack
Christian Agyenim Boateng opened Samartex’s scoring in the 2-0 win over Young Apostles at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samraboi.
Rudolph Nana Mensah of Sweduru All Blacks scored the winner against Kotoko on the stroke of half-time. The in-form striker scored his sixth goal of the season, making him one of the top strikers in the GPL. His goal won all the important three points for All Blacks.
Eleven Wonders had something to cheer about as Fatau included their forward William Danquah in his three-man attack. Danquah scored Wonders’ second goal to level matters before they went down to eventually lose 3-2.
Coach:
Nana Kweku Agyeman of Vision was chosen as the tactician for the week by Fatau. The head coach deserves it for mapping an incredible strategy to sink the Ogya Boys.
