1. Dr KK Sarpong’s heart and soul will be divided on Sunday night
Nations FC are incredibly second on the league log after wonderful results in recent games. Kasim Mingles’ Nations FC has beaten Dreams FC and Berekum Chelsea in their last 2 games and are fancying their chance to lift the GPL. The Abrankese-based club travels to Baba Yara to face the troubled Porcupine Warriors who have lost their last 3 games in the league. Prosper Ogum’s team needs the win to gather momentum for the rest of the season. It looks increasingly likely that Asante Kotoko will go trophiless hence a top 4 finish is what they must target now. Under the floodlights of Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, DR KK Sarpong’s beloved Asante Kotoko will host his team, Nations FC on Sunday night.
2. Ghana’s two representatives in inter-club competitions lock horns on Sunday
GPL and MTN FA Cup defending champions will battle for the three points at Tarkwa. Medeama’s title defence looks impossible as they are 10 points behind Samartex 1996. Medeama enjoyed an indifferent CCL campaign as they failed to qualify from their group. Dreams on the other hand topped their group and will face Stade Malien next weekend in Bamako in the first leg of the quarter-finals. A fixture between the two teams in recent years has been fascinating and another one is expected on Sunday.
3. Karela United and Bofoakwa Tano fight for three crucial points
It will surely be a relegation six-pointer when the calculation time comes. Karela is 15th and has 4 points above Bofoakwa who are 16th and lie in the relegation zone. It is a must-win game for both sides but Bofaokwa’s situation makes it difficult for them to even drop a point. Karela will open a seven-point gap against Bofoakwa if they win in Sunyani on Sunday. Bofoakwa on the other hand will reduce the deficit to 1 point with a win at home.
4. Bono Ahafo Derby on Sunday in Berekum
Their matches are fiercely contested whenever Bono clubs meet or Ahafo Clubs meet. Also, Bono and Ahafo clubs meetings are getting interesting as they always fight over three points and bragging rights. On Sunday afternoon, Samuel Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea faces Bechem United in Berekum. Chelsea have won 2 of their last 8 games as it calls for huge concern. They enjoyed a good moment in the first round but have been struggling in the second round. A win can lift Berekum Chelsea’s morale.
5. Aduana Stars don’t look like title contenders
Title contenders do well in their away games. Aduana Stars are 3rd on the table but they have been extremely appalling in their away games. The Ogya Boys have lost all their last 5 GPL away games. Title contenders don’t lose 5 games consecutively away. Yaw Acheampong’s Aduana travels to face the wounded Accra Great Olympics who have lost 2 and drawn one of their last 3 games. Aduana Stars must start picking up points from away games if they are to challenge for the league title.
