Former Hearts of Oak Chief Executive Officer Harry Zakour has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to consider Laryea Kingston for the Black Stars head coach position.
The GFA is searching for a new head coach following the reported departure of Carlos Queiroz, whose short-term contract expired after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 World Cup, but talks over a possible contract extension are believed to have broken down.
With assistant coach Desmond Ofei reportedly in line to take charge during the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Zakour believes the GFA should look beyond Queiroz and consider a younger Ghanaian coach.
He believes former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston, who currently serves as head coach of Uganda’s men’s national teams, deserves an opportunity to lead Ghana.
“I don’t believe Carlos Queiroz must continue as Black Stars coach. He is old for this job,” Zakour told Sporty FM.
“We have good coaches around like Laryea Kingston, but the problem is that he will be hired, and they will not pay him.
“We have all seen what he is doing in Uganda, and I think, for me, we must give him a look.”
The Black Stars are now preparing for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, with the team expected to regroup in September to begin their campaign.
