‘He doesn’t want to extend his contract’ – Bayern boss confirms that Lewandowski wants to leave

Bayern Munich director of football Hasan Salihamidžić has confirmed that star striker Robert Lewandowski has made it clear that he has no intention of signing a new deal with the club and wants to leave in the summer.

However, the Bavarian giants are still adamant that they will not let the Poland international leave until his contract expires.

Reports in Germany have for some time now stated that Lewandowski would push for a departure from Bayern this summer, with Barcelona reportedly keen on making an offer for the striker. The 33-year-old striker currently has a contract until 2023 and has a market value of £45 million. However, according to Salihamidžić, Lewandowski is still not for say. Even if the player now wants to leave. “I spoke to Lewa. In the conversation he told me that he did not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club,” Salihamidzic told Sky Sport Germany ahead of Bayern’s game with Wolfsburg. “He said that he would like to do something else. But our attitude hasn’t changed. Lewa has a contract until June 30, 2023. That’s a fact. I don’t deal with that because our stance has always been clear.”

Lewandowski wants to leave – but where will he go?

At the moment, all roads for Lewandowski seem to lead to the Camp Nou in Barcelona, where the Spanish giants remain the No.1 club being linked with a move for the striker this summer. According to Kicker, the Catalan giants have offered the Bayern striker a three-year deal and should the German side accept defeat and put the player up for sale, Barca would reportedly be willing to consider a bid similar to the player’s current market value of £45 million.

However, such transfer sagas rarely work out as easily as initially reported in the newspapers and if Lewandowski were to become available this summer then a number of other clubs would surely be interested as well. Alongside Barca, the player has also been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, while Chelsea have also been an outside bet for some time now if they decide to part ways with misfiring striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer. Either way, there will surely be no lack of potential buyers now that Lewandowski has confirmed his intentions to leave Bayern this summer. The only question that now remains is whether the club would ask him to see out his contract until 2023 or instead to cash in on their star striker while they still can.
