Ghana international defender Mohammed Salisu has heaped praise on 17-year-old Spanish winger Lamine Yamal, hailing him as a “special player” with a bright future ahead.
The two players faced off in the Joan Gamper Trophy on Monday, with AS Monaco defeating Barcelona 3-0.
Salisu, who had a solid performance in the match, was impressed by Yamal’s skills and explosiveness. He praised the teenager’s ability to play at a high level, despite being just 16-17 years old. “He had a great season and then he did very well at the Euros. I think he is a special player,” Salisu told Mundo Deportivo.
Yamal, who is a Barcelona player, was a second-half substitute in the match, but could not stop his side from going down.
However, his performances for both club and country have already generated plenty of buzz, and Salisu believes he has a great future ahead of him.
“Yes, I think everyone was surprised because he is a young player. He is 16-17 years old and at that age, when you play this kind of football, it is a bit of a surprise for everyone. I think he has a great future and he is a great player,” he added.
