FC Zurich’s head coach, Bo Henriksen, has commended Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, highlighting the 22-year-old’s significant potential.
Barnieh, previously associated with Hearts of Oak, made his transition to the Swiss Super League club during the winter transfer window, following his participation in Ghana’s Black Galaxies at the 2023 Championship of African Nations.
Upon joining FC Zurich in February, Barnieh initially encountered limited opportunities with the senior team, accumulating a mere eight minutes of playtime across two brief appearances. Additionally, he spent time playing for the junior squad.
Nonetheless, during a recent match against Lugano on Saturday, the young forward illustrated his capabilities by netting a brace in an impressive 3-0 triumph.
Bo Henriksen, while discussing Barnieh’s progress, acknowledged the hurdles presented by his belated arrival and the adjustment to European football. Despite these challenges, Henriksen underscored his recognition of the player’s considerable potential.
“He arrived with us very late in the winter, and then he had to first get used to life in Europe. He also had to learn what we actually expect from him in football terms. He has a lot of potential,” Bo Henriksen said.
