“He needs more opportunities to deliver” – Frank Nelson urges patience with coach Aboubakar Ouattara

Former Accra Hearts of Oak board member Frank Nelson has urged fans to rally behind head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, insisting that the Ivorian tactician needs time and support to implement his vision for the team.

Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Nelson expressed confidence in Ouattara’s abilities, emphasizing that the coach is working hard to build a competitive squad by giving young players opportunities, even if his approach does not always align with fans’ expectations.

“I believe the coach is performing well, and we should offer him more opportunities so that he can deliver,” Nelson stated. “He is attempting to provide opportunities for young boys to play. Sometimes, it may not be what we supporters want, but perhaps he has a different ball game to play. However, this does not mean that the coach will not accept ideas from people or even supporters who come to the stadium to watch games.”

Despite Hearts of Oak’s inconsistent form this season, Nelson remains optimistic about the club’s recovery and believes the players also have a responsibility to step up their performances.

“I believe Accra Hearts of Oak will recover, and I am confident we will do something. The players must encourage themselves at times. You do not always need someone to motivate you since, at the end of the day, this is your career, and being signed will benefit you,” he added.

Hearts of Oak have endured a mixed start to the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign, and pressure has been mounting on Ouattara to turn things around. However, Nelson’s comments suggest the club’s leadership remains patient with the coach’s long-term project.
