Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford attributed Kwadwo Obeng Junior’s decisive goal against Asante Kotoko to the forward’s seasoned experience, asserting that a less experienced player might have missed the opportunity.
Obeng Junior’s 28th-minute strike, capitalizing on a Kotoko goalkeeper error, clinched a 1-0 win in their Week 9 Ghana Premier League encounter at Obuasi’s Len Clay Stadium.
The former Hearts of Oak striker netted his first goal of the season when Kotoko’s Mohammed Camara mishandled a clearance, allowing Obeng Junior to calmly slot the ball into an open net. The victory marked Heart of Lions’ first away win of the season and propelled them to sixth place in the league standings with 14 points.
Praising his player’s composed finish, Hayford emphasized the role of experience in high-pressure situations. “That is what we call experience. Obeng didn’t panic; he saw the keeper was off his line and acted decisively. If it were a young player, nerves might have caused him to miss,” Hayford noted.
Heart of Lions aims to carry this momentum forward as they continue their push in the Ghana Premier League.
