Accra Hearts of Oak are champions of the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup after defeating Heart of Lions 2–0 at the Ohene Gyan Stadium on Sunday evening.
The game began with a solemn minute’s silence in honour of Ghana’s fallen military officers who died in the recent helicopter crash.
Heart of Lions had the first big chance when Obeng Jr set up Seedorf Asante, but the striker missed in a one-on-one with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. The Phobians also threatened, with Francis Duku coming close before later turning provider. His cross found Hamza Issah, but the forward wasted the opportunity from close range.
After several missed chances from both sides, new signing Frank Doku finally broke the deadlock for Hearts with a neat finish from inside the box. Soon after, Hamza Issah redeemed himself, doubling the lead with a composed strike over Jason Nettey.
In the second half, Hearts continued to press for more goals, with Doku, Issah, and Mawuli Wayo all missing further chances. Lions also went close when Atta Agyei’s cross narrowly missed the target.
The game ended 2–0, sealing the trophy for Hearts of Oak, who now shift focus to the GHALCA Top Four tournament starting Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Both clubs will see this clash as solid preparation for the competition.
