Hearts of Oak seek redemption against Accra Lions on today

Accra Hearts of Oak go toe-to-toe with Accra Lions in an epic capital derby on matchday-28 of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday May 1, 2024. 

The Phobians were undone by a huge stroke of misfortune after losing 2-0 at Legon Cities last weekend and will be eager to respond against their city rivals.

Lions will be in confident mood ahead of the cracking fixture after drawing 1-1 at Karela United in their last encounter.

Hearts have accumulated 35 points from 27 matches and lie 11th on the league table, having won 1 and suffered 4 defeats in their last 5 league games.

The Phobians have recorded 23 points from 13 home games, scoring 17 goals and conceding 9.

They are the 5th ranked club with the least number of points accumulated at home in this campaign.

Coach Abubakar Ouattara’s side head into the game with a victory in their last home encounter against Karela United.

Accra Lions have bagged 3 wins, one draw and suffered one defeat in their last 5 league games.  They are currently 6th on the league table with 40 accumulated points after matchday27.  Accra Lions are ranked as the 4th best away performers having picked 13 points, scoring 11 and conceding 19.  Accra Lions are winless in their last 3 away games.

Hearts of Oak have met and beaten Accra Lions twice at home since they qualified to the Premier League, spanning from the 2021-22 season.

In the 2021/22 season,  Hearts of Oak beat Accra Lions 2-0 and won 1-0 in the 2022/23.

Youngster Hamza Issah who has already established himself as a linchpin in the Hearts of Oak team’s set up will be available for the game on Saturday.

Other key players include, Linda Mtange,Salifu Ibrahim, David Oppong Afrane, Yaw Baafi, Kassim Cisse, Denis Korsah, Salim Adams, Kofi Agbesimah, Enock Asubonteng, Thomas Winimi, Micheal Ampadu and Martin Karikari are all available for selection.

Accra Lions can count on Mohammed Yahaya, Dominic Amponsah, Mohammed Ali, Blessing Dankwah, Daniel Awuni, Baba Salifu Apiiga, Musa Hamzata, David Oduro, Remember Adomako Boateng, Bernard Kesse and Issah Husein for the crunch tie.
