Hearts of Oak show interest in former FC Samartex winger Evans Osei Owusu

Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak have set their sights on former FC Samartex 1996 winger Evans Osei Owusu as part of their efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Sources close to the club have confirmed that preliminary discussions have begun between the Phobians and the player’s representatives, with Evans emerging as a key target for newly appointed head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, who is overseeing a squad rebuild after a disappointing campaign.

Evans Osei Owusu, 25, parted ways with Samartex at the end of the 2023/24 season after an impressive spell with the Samreboi-based side. During his time at the club, he earned a reputation as one of the most dangerous wide men in the league — combining blistering pace with sharp dribbling and intelligent movement. His ability to deliver in the final third with goals and assists made him a crucial figure in Samartex’s top-half finish last season.

He scored 11 goals and provided 8 assists in 27 appearances to help Samartex clinch their maiden league title.

Though now a free agent, Evans is attracting attention from multiple Ghana Premier League clubs, but Hearts of Oak are reportedly in a strong position to secure his signature due to their stature and long-term project under the new technical leadership.

Coach Ouattara is said to be an admirer of the winger’s work rate and versatility, particularly his ability to play on both flanks in either a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system. The coach sees Evans as a valuable addition who could inject pace and creativity into a Hearts side that struggled for consistency and attacking edge last season.

The Phobians are expected to be one of the most active teams in the transfer market this off-season. With club president Togbe Afede XIV backing a renewed push for silverware and continental qualification, signing a proven domestic talent like Evans would align with the club’s strategy of blending youth with experience.

The former Tema Youth star is reportedly open to a return to Accra and sees Hearts as a step forward in his professional journey. Negotiations are still in the early stages, but both parties are optimistic about reaching an agreement before the summer window officially opens in June.

Hearts of Oak fans will be eager to see fresh faces join the squad, and the potential arrival of Evans Osei Owusu could be the first of several new additions aimed at reviving the club’s fortunes in the upcoming campaign.
