Ghana Premier League giants have made contact with highly-rated coach over a potential move to the club ahead of the new season.

Sources indicate that the Phobians are considering Afoakwa for a dual role as Assistant Coach and Head Coach of the club’s youth team as they continue efforts to strengthen their technical structure.

However, are determined to keep hold of the promising tactician and have begun discussions aimed at extending his stay at the club. The club views Afoakwa as an important part of its long-term project and is eager to ward off growing interest in his services.

The situation has sparked a behind-the-scenes battle between the two clubs, with both sides working to convince the coach about their respective sporting projects. While Hearts of Oak are offering the opportunity to join one of Ghana’s most successful clubs, Accra Lions are hoping continuity and a larger role within their setup will persuade him to remain.

Afoakwa’s reputation has risen significantly in recent seasons due to his impressive coaching work and ability to develop young talents. His stock increased further following his role in helping avoid relegation during the 2024/25 campaign, a feat that earned him praise across the local football landscape.

His tactical knowledge, player-development skills and growing experience have made him one of the most sought-after young coaches in Ghanaian football.

With Hearts of Oak pushing to secure his signature and Accra Lions fighting to retain him, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining the next chapter of Richard Afoakwa’s coaching career.

For now, the race remains open, and a crucial decision awaits one of Ghana’s emerging coaching talents.
