Accra Hearts of Oak has emphasized that it won’t rush into selecting a replacement for the recently ousted coach, Martinus Koopman.
The termination of the 67-year-old Dutchman’s contract was part of the club’s broader effort to restructure the technical team for the ongoing 2023/24 football season.
Sources close to the club revealed that Koopman’s departure was solely based on non-performance, citing only two wins in 10 matches. Despite providing opportunities, including assigning a technical head to offer guidance, the club was dissatisfied with the coach’s results.
The technical head expressed doubts about Koopman’s capabilities after observing his performance with the team. Nii Noi Thompson has been enlisted to assist Coach Abdul Bashiru for the remainder of the season, with plans to explore the transfer market for a new coach at the appropriate time.
While preferring a local coach, the club is open to an experienced candidate who aligns with its philosophy. The source mentioned ongoing searches for a replacement, expressing a preference for an experienced Ghanaian coach, although foreign coaches are not entirely ruled out.
To avoid potential legal conflicts, the club commits to honoring any financial obligations stipulated in Koopman’s contract.
