Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has urged Ghanaians to be patient with the Black Stars, insisting that restoring the senior national team to its former glory will require time, commitment and sustained effort.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Asante Twum admitted that the Black Stars are going through a difficult period but stressed that the GFA leadership is fully aware of the challenges and is working to steer the team back in the right direction.
According to him, supporters should not expect an immediate transformation, as rebuilding a successful national team is a gradual process that demands careful planning and consistent hard work.
“It wouldn’t take a day, wouldn’t take a week; it’ll take a lot more effort and a lot of time to get the team back on track,” he said.
“Where we are at this moment, leadership is aware of the challenges that confront us, and efforts are being made to get the team back on track.”
Asante Twum also acknowledged the intense scrutiny that accompanies poor results, noting that public opinion in football is largely shaped by performances on the pitch.
“When you win, you’re hailed, but you don’t expect the people to hail you when the results are poor. That’s what leadership must know and accept,” he added.
His remarks come at a time of growing pressure on the Ghana Football Association following the Black Stars’ disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The four-time African champions suffered consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening Group C fixtures, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table without a point and facing an uphill task to qualify for the tournament.
In response to the team’s struggles, the GFA has appointed an interim technical team led by Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren for the upcoming double-header against Somalia, with Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko and former Ghana international Godwin Attram serving as assistants, while Fatawu Dauda continues as goalkeepers’ coach.
The November fixtures against Somalia are widely viewed as must-win encounters for Ghana, with six points essential to revive the Black Stars’ qualification hopes and restore confidence among supporters as the search for a permanent head coach continues.
