Heart of Midlothian have reached an agreement with Ugandan international forward Rogers Mato to become a Hearts player in the summer.

The 22-year-old will join the club in July, upon the expiration of his contract with North Macedonian side Vardar, and will pen a three-year-deal.

Thanks to his goalscoring exploits this season, Rogers has become one of Europe’s hottest properties and recently competed at the Africa Cup of Nations.

A product of Kampala-based Proline FC in his homeland, Rogers cut his teeth in the Uganda Premier League before tasting European football for the first time with Sanliurfaspor in Turkey.

He made the move to the North Macedonian top flight in February 2024 with AP Brera, and a year later was snapped up Vardar. In his first season there he helped the side to the UEFA Conference League qualifiers and lifted the Macedonian Cup.

Rogers has enjoyed an explosive 2025/26 campaign to date, sending Vardar to the top of the league thanks to his 12 goals in 13 games.

He’s taken his talents to the international stage too. First capped in 2022, he’s already amassed 41 appearances for the Cranes and has scored eight goals, including one at this year’s AFCON tournament.
