German winger Jamie Leweling has opened up about his decision to represent Germany instead of Ghana, despite being eligible for both nations due to his mixed heritage.
Born to a German mother and a Ghanaian father, the VfB Stuttgart star ultimately chose to wear the colors of Germany.
Leweling made his debut for the German national team on October 14, 2024, scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 UEFA Nations League win over the Netherlands. This came four years after he declined a call-up from Ghana.
When asked about his choice, Leweling stated, “Quite simply: because I was born and grew up here. I am German!” He also reflected on his debut, admitting that he felt nervous at first but was overjoyed to have helped his team secure the victory.
