Former Black Stars coach Claude Le Roy has criticised FIFA President Gianni Infantino, warning that his continued leadership poses a danger to football.
Infantino has come under scrutiny following the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision to rescind United States forward Florian Balogun‘s red card, allowing him to play against Belgium after US President Donald Trump reportedly requested a review.
The decision has attracted widespread criticism, with many accusing FIFA of allowing politics to influence football. Several organisations have also called for investigations into the matter.
Reacting to the development, Le Roy said Infantino had managed football poorly during his tenure and expressed surprise that he is set to contest the next FIFA presidential election without opposition.
However, he acknowledged Infantino’s ability to speak multiple languages, saying it has helped him persuade people, but argued that this alone does not justify his leadership.
Le Roy maintained that Infantino’s stewardship is damaging to the game and insisted that action must be taken.
“I am shocked this man is still head of FIFA. I don’t get how we can accept that he is the only candidate for the next election. He has one quality, he’s multilingual. A multilingual idiot, dangerous for football…” he said, as reported by L’Équipe du Soir.
