Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu expressed immense pride after making a successful return from a nearly nine-month injury hiatus.
The 24-year-old featured for the full duration of AS Monaco’s debut game, securing a 2-1 victory over Stade Rennais on Saturday.
Salisu, who joined the French Ligue 1 club from Southampton, underwent surgery for a groin issue, marking his first competitive appearance since March 2023 against Tottenham.
Post-match, Salisu shared his sentiments, expressing joy for overcoming challenges and contributing to the team’s success.
“I am very happy to make my debut. Honestly, it’s been a long time I did not play and today I got the chance to play 90 minutes.
“I am very proud of myself. I am very happy for the journey; it’s been a difficult journey but at the end, I made my debut today so I am very happy.
He conveyed his happiness and gratitude for the support received throughout the challenging journey.
“For me it was an amazing feeling, you know. Everyone was happy for me. I’m very grateful for the support from everyone.”
