Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has praised Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, describing him as a “modern N’Golo Kanté” while highlighting his humility, confidence and growing influence at the club.
Thomas-Asante believes Yirenkyi’s quiet personality hides a player with great self-belief and determination, qualities that have helped him make an impression since arriving at Coventry City.
“I call him the modern N’Golo Kanté. He’s so quiet and keeps himself to himself. However, he is a really confident character. He is quietly confident,” Thomas-Asante told Premier League TV.
The Ghanaian striker also reflected on Yirenkyi’s emotional reaction after a late Coventry goal, revealing how happy he was to see the young midfielder enjoy such a special moment.
“Just because of the love I have for him. When the ball hit the back of the net, he ran off and I was on the other side, and I couldn’t believe we had scored this late in the game.”
“There were two groups of huddles celebrating. I remember I was looking at Caleb and I was so pleased for him. That whole feeling resonated with me and I enjoyed that.”
Yirenkyi has quickly earned admiration from his teammates following his move from Danish side FC Nordsjælland, where he established himself as one of the league’s most promising young midfielders.
The 20-year-old midfielder impressed during the 2025/26 Danish Superliga campaign, registering 28 appearances, 2 goals and 8 assists, earning recognition for his creativity, work rate and ability to influence matches from midfield.
His performances attracted attention across Europe before Coventry City secured his signature, with head coach Frank Lampard also praising his talent and potential after his match-winning contribution against Plymouth Argyle.
With Thomas-Asante now highlighting his mentality and Lampard backing his development, Yirenkyi is quickly becoming one of Coventry’s most exciting young players and a name to watch in English football.
