Ghana coach Otto Addo has pledged to recover from the Black Stars’ disastrous 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign and lead the team to better fortunes.

The Black Stars finished the qualifiers winless, culminating in a shocking 2-1 defeat to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium. This failure marks Ghana’s first absence from the continental tournament in two decades, an outcome that has drawn widespread criticism.

Despite growing calls for his resignation, Addo remains resolute, expressing his determination to guide the team through this difficult period.

“I never give up. This is the way I came up. This is part of the job, and I know this is very, very normal that you want me to resign. I don’t know what you want me to do here. [Whether] cry or whatever,” Addo said after the game.

He added, “But I am very sad, and I can’t go home. I don’t even want to go home because when I go, I will see them [my family] cry.”

Looking ahead, Ghana will now turn their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Black Stars are set to compete in Group I, aiming to secure their fifth World Cup appearance and bring back national pride.
