Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has urged Ghanaians to temper their expectations, cautioning that there are no guarantees of victory in the upcoming return leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan, set for Monday, October 14, in Libya.
Following a frustrating goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, Addo spoke to the media, reaffirming his determination to secure a much-needed win. However, he avoided making any bold promises of an assured victory.
The Black Stars have struggled in their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign, currently sitting third in Group F with only two points from three matches. Despite the challenges, Addo stressed that Ghana still has control over their qualification fate.
“Look, this assurance that everybody’s talking about, why? For what? This is football. I cannot even assure, maybe God will take me tomorrow and I’m dead. What can I assure? We will try our best. And I know that at the end we’ll be rewarded. And the positive thing is, what I want to tell you, all of you, it’s still in our own hands. We have to win the next game, that’s all. And then still, we are not qualified yet. Then it’s still a long way. It’s going to be very, very tough to the last match, I think. But we will do it. With this performance, again, we will do it in Libya, against Sudan”
With Sudan now sitting on four points after the draw, Ghana must deliver a strong performance in Libya to keep their hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025 alive. Addo acknowledged the tough task ahead but remains optimistic based on the team’s improved display.
“It’s going to be difficult, but with this performance, we can do it in Libya against Sudan,” Addo concluded.
Facing a must-win situation, the Black Stars know that anything short of three points could jeopardise their chances of making it to the tournament in Morocco.
