Former Asante Kotoko star Charles Taylor has called on the club to intensify their preparations ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign next month.
The Porcupine Warriors have been paired with Nigerian outfit Kwara United in the first preliminary round. The first leg will be staged at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi between September 19 and 21, with the return clash scheduled for Ilorin from September 26 to 28.
Despite the anticipation, Taylor has expressed doubts about Kotoko’s readiness, pointing to their underwhelming display in the just-ended 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament, where they failed to record a single win.
“I don’t see any seriousness in Asante Kotoko’s preparation towards the CAF Confederation Cup,” Taylor told Asempa FM, stressing the need for improved planning and commitment if the team hopes to make an impact on the continent.
Progress past Kwara United would set up a challenging second-round showdown with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, a tie Taylor believes requires far better preparation.
Before turning their full focus to Africa, Kotoko will take on Bibiani GoldStars in the Champion of Champions clash on Sunday, August 31, at DUNs Park.
