Ghana’s Black Stars manager Otto Addo, has opened up on why RC Lens midfielder Abdul Samed Salis, wasn’t named in the Black Stars squad for their FIFA international friendlies ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana, four-time African Champions, were whipped 3-0 by five-time World Cup winners Brazil at Stade Oceane in Le Harve on Friday.
The talented midfeilder was surprisingly missing from the Ghanaian squad annonced by Otto Addo earlier this month for matches against Brazil, Nicaragua and Switzerland.
According to Addo, the player wasn’t invited because he refused to be put in the reserve list despite his former mate Seidu Alidu having no problem with that.
“Salis Abdul Samed, he played at Clermont Foot with Alidu Seidu, I called the two in May, and we still have a list with players on stand-by to be prepared in the event that players are injured,” Addo said as reported by Africa Football News.
He further stated that: “Alidu Seidu told me that there was no problem with him not being on the reserve list and being ready just in case. But Salis Abdul Samed told me he didn’t want to be on the reserve list. Then we had a lot of injuries in June, so I invited Alidu Seidu but Abdul Samed didn’t want to be a reservist so he wasn’t on the list, I couldn’t invite him.“So he is the one who excludes himself from the list? ” Yes, that’s it.”
Meanwhile, Coach Otto will now work with 27 players for the match against Nicaragua on Tuesday at Estadio Francisco Artés Carrasco based in Lorca after Thomas Partey was excused to fly to Londo to assess the extent of his injury suffered ahead of the Brazil game.
The team will be hoping to rewrite the script after losing 3-0 to Brazil at Stade Oceane in Le Harve on Friday, September 23, 2022.
The match is scheduled for 18:00 on Tuesday, September 27, 2022
