Ghana’s Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew, expressed his joy at scoring in the French Ligue 1 after an eight-year absence, netting a brace for Le Havre in their 3-3 draw with Lorient on Sunday.
The 33-year-old showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a header in the 85th minute and an impressive bicycle kick finish in the 94th minute, securing a dramatic tie.
These goals mark Ayew’s first since joining Le Havre as a free agent in late 2023. His last stint in the French Ligue 1 was with Olympique de Marseille before making a move to the English Premier League side Swansea City in June 2015.
In the post-game press conference, Ayew expressed his satisfaction, saying, “It’s pleasing to score again in the Ligue 1. I had been waiting for that moment since I came back.”
The brace comes on the heels of a disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Cote D’Ivoire, where Ghana exited the group stage without registering a win in three games.
Le Havre currently sits at the 11th position on the league table with 23 points, and Andre Ayew aims to continue his impressive form as they face AS Monaco at the Stade Louis II next Sunday.
