Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has revealed he had no doubt about the outcome of his sensational long-range strike after scoring a record-breaking goal for Leicester City against Ipswich Town.
The Ghanaian winger delivered a moment of magic at the King Power Stadium, producing a breathtaking effort from inside Leicester’s own half during the Foxes’ 3-1 victory. Fatawu took three quick touches to evade two Ipswich players before noticing goalkeeper Christian Walton positioned well off his line.
Spotting the opportunity, the 20-year-old surged forward and unleashed a thunderous strike from just beyond the centre circle, sending the ball sailing over the stranded Walton and into the net.
Measured at 65.2 metres, the goal has been confirmed as the longest-range strike in Championship history since Opta began recording data in the 2013/14 season. The effort doubled Leicester’s advantage on the night and proved decisive in setting them on course for victory.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester, Fatawu admitted he was confident the moment the ball left his foot.
“I always try this from long range. It’s good that it went in today, and I feel amazing. When I hit it, I didn’t have any doubts,” he said.
The Black Stars winger went on to rank the goal above all others he has scored.
“I’ve scored from distance before, but I think this is the best one,” Fatawu added.
Fatawu continues to enjoy an impressive season with Leicester City, having now been directly involved in 10 goals, scoring six times and providing four assists, further underlining his growing influence in the side.
